BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan — While tourists from Asian region continue to dominate in Boracay, the local tourism office in this island resort aims to focus its promotional activities to attract visitors from other regions this year.

Felix delos Santos, Malay chief tourism officer, said Boracay aims to target more tourists from Europe and America.

Delos Santos said there is a big potential for both European and American market to increase this year because they were already among the top visitors in 2015.

International tourism grows above 4% for 6th year

MANILA, Philippines – International tourism has sustained its above-average growth, reaching almost 1.2 billion arrivals for 2015, according to the latest World Tourism Barometer. International tourist arrivals grew 4.4 percent to 1.184 billion and marked the sixth consecutive year of above-average growth, with arrivals increasing an average four percent yearly since the post-crisis in 2010.

THE Department of Tourism (DOT) 7 is currently conducting a roadshow in four cities in the United States to lure more foreign tourists to come to Cebu via the Philippine Airlines’ (PAL) new direct link between Cebu and Los Angeles next month.

The agency, together with three Cebu-based travel agencies and travel operators/representatives from Manila will market Cebu and the Philippines to Filipino communities and US nationals in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco from Jan. 29 to Feb. 6.

THE Department of Tourism (DOT) regional office in Iloilo City has named the top five foreign tourist arrivals and tourism markets of Western Visayas.

According to the partial Visitor Arrivals Report as of February 1, 2016 of the DOT Western Visayas, Korea with 331,269 tourist arrivals is followed by China with 183,708, Taiwan with 59,343, USA with 39,379, and Malaysia with 36,158.
