THE Department of Tourism (DOT) regional office in Iloilo City has named the top five foreign tourist arrivals and tourism markets of Western Visayas.

DOT Regional Director Helen Catalbas said that Korea is still the number one foreign tourist market of the region in 2015.

According to the partial Visitor Arrivals Report as of February 1, 2016 of the DOT Western Visayas, Korea with 331,269 tourist arrivals is followed by China with 183,708, Taiwan with 59,343, USA with 39,379, and Malaysia with 36,158.

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines and Mexico signed bilateral agreements during the recently-concluded Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit promoting active tourism between the two countries. On the sidelines of the unveiling of APEC sculptures, Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. noted Mexico would become a future source of business for Philippine tourism.

Los Angeles, California — Philippine Airlines (PAL) plans to add new routes in the United States to service not only the Filipino-Americans (Fil-Ams) but also other travelers planning to visit the Philippines.

In a press conference here this weekend, PAL President Jaime J. Bautista said the incremental routes are currently in the drawing board and “it is a just a matter of time” that they are realized.

“We have been receiving a lot of requests (to fly in other parts of the US). It is part of our plan and we are studying it,” Bautista said.

LOS ANGELES — With a lot of “fun fare” PAL, Asia’s first airline, marked its 75th year in business by opening its 40th route – the Cebu-Los Angeles-Cebu direct flight, flying in Fil-Am and U.S. media reps on a familiarization tour of Cebu and Los Angeles and a press conference and gala on March 18 at a premier hotel, the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills.
On March 15 at six in the evening, the first direct Cebu-Los Angeles route touched down at the Tom Bradley International Airport. On board were Philippine media, and PAL senior officers led by Harry Inoferio.
