Tourism Response and Assistance
The DOT, under the leadership of Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, is formally requesting Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT) assistance from the DSWD for affected tourism workers, and has committed to conduct training, particularly on Occupational First Aid under the Tourism Industry Skills Program (TISP).
Other interventions being coordinated include the Turismo Asenso Loan Program with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Small Business Corporation (SB Corp.), provision of food packs and logistical support by DSWD, and improved connectivity through the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) deployment of Starlink devices and coordination with telcos for network restoration.
Negros Island Region (NIR)
While no large-scale casualties have been reported, tremors caused minor structural damages and affected the operations of some establishments. The most significant damage was reported at Ma. Awani Hotel and Suites in San Carlos City, where ceilings collapsed, walls cracked, and heavy debris fell within the property.
Eight guests were staying at the hotel at the time of the incident; all were safely assisted, with some provided alternative accommodations while others chose to proceed to different destinations. At least 89 accommodation staff employed at the hotel have experienced temporary job displacement due to its closure. DOT-NIR has coordinated the list of affected workers with DSWD for provision of family food packs and assistance.
No stranded or injured tourists have been reported in the region, and no suspensions of tourist activities or flight cancellations were recorded. Monitoring and safety inspections across Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor are ongoing, with DOT-NIR maintaining active coordination with partner agencies.
