The race will kick off the 75th Anniversary Commemoration of the Bataan Death March which aims to honor the thousands of Filipino and American soldiers who perished during this tragic moment of history. |
Chesapeake, Virginia | April 22 | Chesapeake Bataan Death March Run(16.6, 5, 1 Miles) | This will be held in partnership with the SSG Jonathan Killian Dozier Memorial VFW Post 2894. This event honors heroic service members who defended the Philippines during World War II and their families. The race will be held at the Dismal Swamp in Chesapeake. |
Jersey City, New Jersey | May 28 | STX Fil-Am 5K and Manila Avenue Mile | This will be held during the East Coast’s largest Santacruzan (“Feast of the Holy Cross”), which will be celebrating its 39th year in 2017. The celebration showcases a cultural fair, show, exhibits and procession. The race itself highlights Filipino heroes, athletes, and influencers. It starts at Town Square Place and ends at the historic Manila Avenue, an area in Jersey City thriving with many Filipino-Americans. |
Bolingbrook, Illinois | June 10 | Piyesta Pinoy Fil-Am 5K | Launched in 2010, Piyesta Pinoy (“Philippine Festival”) is an annual event which presents Filipino talents, vendors, traditional food and games, and cultural exhibits. It was initially solely celebrated in Chicago’s Navy Pier during the month of March. Due to Navy Pier’s limited capacity and the festival’s increasing popularity among Filipino-Americans in the Midwest, a June celebration in Bolingbrook was added in 2013. 2017 will have the inaugural 5K race component. |
